A Message from the Director

Good morning,

With Veterans Day on Monday, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the veterans in our membership for your service. Words are not sufficient to convey the appreciation I feel for the sacrifices you and your families made in service of our country. 

I also wanted to extend a huge thank you for the many people who have been and are 

spreading the word about OLLI to community members over the next couple of weeks:

  • At the end of this week, Membership Development & Marketing Committee members will have made two big presentations to community groups. Thank you, Althea Boone, Bob Dietz, Madeleine Leeds, and Willa Nipper for giving these presentations on our behalf! 
  • Last week, several members of our Advisory Council represented OLLI at the university’s All Boards Luncheon, increasing our connections with the university community. Thank you, Phyllis Demko, Stanley Faer, Diana Hutchinson, Tom Hutchinson, Bill Jones, Carol Kasworm, Chuck Korte, Carol Rahmani, and Willa Nipper, for representing us so well!
  • The week before that, Maureen Deis and Phyllis Demko made an excellent presentation to NC State’s Association of Retired Faculty. Thank you, Maureen and Phyllis!
  • And last week, 12 of you – including some new members – answered my call to help represent OLLI at NC State at a booth at the NC Senior Home Show. Thank you, Althea Boone, John Dickson, Mike Ganey, Carol Kasworm, Marie Kehres, Annie Lang, Kyong Lee, Madeleine Leeds, Kay Moore, Willa Nipper, Lin Stevens, and Sybil Wellstood, for helping us at this upcoming event!

We have a packed newsletter this week. Keep scrolling down to learn more about upcoming classes, to read an instructor spotlight, and to learn which Program Development Committee & Subcommittee members helped put together this month’s programs. We’re also bringing you info on our new website, an opportunity to get your One Card, a Veterans Day celebration on campus, and a virtual opportunity from the Osher Integrative Health Centers. Whew! It’s a lot of info!
