OLLI is a Community
Being part of the NC State community means we can bring you opportunities from across the university that are open to the public. This week, we’re glad to share upcoming opportunities produced by NC State Libraries and the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center.
Please note that registration in advance is required for all of these opportunities.
NC State Libraries Global Film Series: Carving the Divine
This documentary offers a rare and intimate look into the life and artistic process of modern-day Busshi — practitioners of a 1400-year lineage of Buddhist woodcarving. Runtime: 1 hour 39 minutes. In Japanese with English subtitles.
The Global Film series is a partnership between the NC State University Libraries and NC State Global. This film is made possible by the NC Japan Center. Before the screening, Professor Levi McLaughlin of NC State’s Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies will introduce the film.
Attend the film screen on Thursday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Witherspoon Student Center located on campus at NC State:
Mapping the Earth’s Mycorrhizal Networks Across Scales
Mycorrhizal fungi are an ancient life-support system that regulates Earth’s climate and ecosystems. Toby Kiers, Chief Scientist and Executive Director for the Society for the Protection of Underground Networks, will discuss fungal biodiversity mapping and how scientists use nanoprobe-tracking, high-resolution network mapping, and ecological manipulations to understand how fungi move resources.
This event is virtual. Registrants will be sent a Zoom link before the program. Please note that this Zoom link will come from NC State Libraries and not OLLI.
Attend the film screening on Friday, October 18 at 9:30 a.m.
Shelton Leadership Forum
Our friends at the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center are hosting their 23rd annual Shelton Leadership Forum to be streamed virtually on Friday, October 18. OLLI members are welcome to attend and to forward this opportunity to friends and family members who may be interested.
